Le Cong Kieu Antique Street (Copy)

Named Reims Street during the Indochina time, Le Cong Kieu Street was a small alley . It took its current name of Le Cong Kieu, an army leader in the Can Vuong Insurgency between 1885 and 1889 against French colonial rules to restore emperor Hàm Nghi reign.

The street, about 200m long considered the oldest in Saigon is still the place to buy old lacquered and wooden objects, pottery, various objects for interior decoration.

This photo  provides at one glance the 4 layers of Saigonese architecture from French Colonial to Modernist and  Post-War style. The background shows the current face of the city, crunched by the massive modern buildings.
